Martin Park is 34 years old, and was diagnosed with a bilateral retinoblastoma in the age of 1 year old. Too late, as it came out: He lost his eye sight. His mum, however, never wrapped him up in cotton wool; instead she always took him like a seeing child. And this way a blind child turned into an extraordinary adult. A person full of the joys of life, who cannot be stopped from any apparent limits set by his disease.
Martin Park is happily married, has two children, a boy and a girl and: is teacher in a high school for seeing children, teaches geography and French and his students love his stories of nature that are full of details.
No other teacher can explain the smell of weather-beaten granite or the wind on the Pyrenees as graphically as he can; the stories of his journeys to the Himalaya couldn’t be any more thrilling.
And they love it: “He is not one of the teachers that stand in front of the classroom and talks; we have to actually talk with one another and it feels like we are on the same page.”
